Des is a facade specialist and has worked for a number of practices as facade architect to deliver globally significant and complex buildings, most recently as Project Architect for the Olympic Village Scheme for London 2012 at Glenn Howells Architects. Prior to this, he worked at Zaha Hadid Architects on the Glasgow Transport Museum project – the first major building to be completed by the practice in the UK. From 2005-2008 he worked at Ian Simpson Architects on a variety of schemes.
At Zaha Hadid Architects, Des was responsible for the design of the external envelope of the Glasgow Transport Museum. This required extensive research into new methods of structural design, material application and construction technology. As Project Architect for the Olympic Village at Glenn Howells Architects, he was responsible for the design development and delivery of the Olympic Village schemes, particularly façade coordination. His research relates to façade technology, particularly relating to concepts of low carbon, bioclimatic responsive mass customised envelopes.
